I oppose the merger of SD Department of Agriculture and the SD Department of Environmental and Natural Resources. I will vote NO, if you elect me.
Governor Noem is proposing combining the Department of Agriculture with DENR.
I disagree with that, and I will vote AGAINST if I am elected Senator in District 20.
Look, state government is not "Slim Fast" (tastes great, less filling)
You can't reduce your way to GREATNESS.
The trend of Republican Governors to combine Departments and "economize" is not good.
Agriculture looks after the food producers. DENR is public health, environmental monitoring, natural resource assessment, abandoned wells, dam safety, waste management and water use...
As a Senator, I can look at the budget and say, Well, maybe this Department should stay the same, this department could be reduced 0.5%...
I think the only reason Gov. Noem wants to combine them, is to abandon environmental responsibility that is baked into our current statutes.
Agricultural producers should be helped. Natural resources, well, that's what we are living on,right? Land, drinking hopefully pure water, without pollutants.
Noem's lack of attention on masks, covid 19 Universal Testing, and free quarantine or isolation space for infected people basically shows me if you merge Ag and Natural Resources, you will not get a good result.
The professionals is both Departments need to stay there.
South Dakota government, to serve the people, should not be "Slim Fast."
Concentrate on your mission, grow businesses and Social businesses, then there will be plenty of tax revenue to support BOTH Departments.
I will vote AGAINST the merger of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Natural Resources in the State Senate, if you elect me on November 3.
Change the world, create a better world, and do it with joy, every day!
Dream big!
