Bolder and Better

On May 5, Dr. Yunus wrote a very thoughtful editorial  in The Print, a website from India.

Here is what he said:

Muhammad Yunus: Don’t plan for economic ‘recovery’ post-Covid. Redesign it from scratch

"Before we restart the economy, we must agree on what kind of economy we want.

First and foremost, we have to agree that the economy is a means to facilitate us to reach the goals set by us. It should not behave like a death trap designed by some divine power to punish us. We should not forget for a moment that it is a tool made by us. We must keep on designing and redesigning it until we arrive at the highest collective happiness.

If at any point, we feel that it is not taking us where we want to go, we must immediately know that there is something wrong and fix it. We cannot excuse ourselves by saying, ‘Sorry we cannot achieve our goals because our software or hardware will not let us do that’.

If we want to create a world of zero net carbon emission, we build the right hardware and software for it. If we want a world of zero unemployment, we do the same. If we want a world where there will be no concentration of wealth, we do the same.  It is all about building the right hardware and the right software. The power is in us. When human beings set their minds on something, they get it done. Nothing is impossible.

Coronavirus crisis gives us a fresh start — to design our hardware and software with a clean slate."

I agree with what he says.

We are at a turning point in 2020.

We can agree with a lot of politicans and say:  "Yeah, open up the economy.  We'll get the corona virus taken care somehow, somewhen.'

Or  we can take a bigger view, as Dr. Yunus  enc0urages us to.

We can take the time now, and redesign the world.

We sure can design, build and have the software and  the hardware for zero unemployment, zero net carbon emissions and a better concentration of wealth, this is something  we can agree and do.

The idea of "We have to get back to normal" is sad and is just a bugle call to the status quo:  1.25 Billion or so people living on $1 a day or less?  Is this what we want to return to?  Really?  No.

We can design a new world.  A better, bolder, bigger world for all of us.

We're not talking about a world wide referendum.

Right now, small groups of passionate people can get this started.  We can design zero net carbon based economies, and little and medium and large companies all across the world  will sign on and commit.

We  can design zero unemployment economies.  Social businesses, businesses, nonprofits and even governments can commit to this as build a zero unemployment South Dakota and USA.

We can say, Ahhh, we don't want the old world, with its unemployment, racism, violent wars, discrimination and bigotry.  We can absolutely design a better world!

What kind of economy do we want?

I think we would like a compassionate, loving economy that values every citizen, from the 1 hour old baby to the 106 year old guy or gal who wants to live in their home!

I'll say this:  If you choose cynicism and a jaded view, ask yourself if the cynical view of the world will pay all your bills.  Probably not.

But if you choose the compassionate economy of 100% employment (no welfare, a dignified job for everyone), that is an economy where all your bills will be paid!

We can build the right hardware (infrastructure) and the right software (thinking, planning, believing and software) that will make this happen!

We can absolutely redesign the world and have:

No Unemployment, No Net Carbon Emissions, No Poverty

and a Trickle Down economy, where most of the rewards  flow to us, the non-billionaires!  We can design this new world now.   If we don't and just shrug our shoulders, we are dismissing our vast spiritual and mental powers, quitting and handing the world back to the billionaires.

A billionaire is not a bad person.  Many of them give to charities.

In the near future, more people and more billionaires will choose to live as happy, loving, world-changing non-billionaires.  1,250,000,000 people  now live on $1 or less a day.

Wouldn't it be great to prosper them and give them an equal seat at the table?

We will not go back to the old order of things.

We will design a new economy and world where all 7.8 billion people are winners and prosperous every day!

Dream big!
