$5,000,000 on attracting tourists? We can spend the money better! Vote for Libertarians!

Associated Press reports:  "South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s administration announced Tuesday that it is using federal coronavirus relief funds to pay for a $5 million tourism ad campaign aimed at drawing people to the state, even as it emerges as one of the nation’s top hot spots for COVID-19 infections."

Federal money for coronavirus RELIEF, spent on an ad?  When more tourists arrive in the State, will the virus infection spread more?

Suppose you are Governor.

Instead of an ad that increases the likelihood of South Dakotans will either get infected or infect other Americans, you decide to do something radically different.

Suppose you receive just 1% of that-- $50,000.

What can you spend it on, to make things better?

1.  More masks, to make sure people are safer and do  not get the virus. Remember, most masks are 98% effective, which is a lot better than 0% (going inside without a mask).  50,000 masks.

2.  Free testing for Covid-19, so those that are spreaders with no symptoms can be quarantined for 14 days, so they stop infecting people.  At $100 a test, the $50,000 would cover 500 free tests for people across South Dakota.

3.  Free quarantine space for people who don't want to infect their family at home.  At $100 a night for hotel, motel or airBNB plus food cost, $50,000 would cover 500 nights for people to quarantine safely.

Noem's vision is attract tourists from 50 states and overseas during the middle of a PANDEMIC?  Not wise, economically or scientifically.  To stop the infections from spreading more, she should stop campaigning for Trump, too. A pandemic requires 3 things--testing, contract tracing and quarantining infected individuals. Countries and states that have done have greatly reduced covid-19 infections.

Instead of saying:  Tourists, come here (while SD is one of the top 3 states for infections per capita!), a Governor should say:  Everyone wear a mask, please.  Let's wlork together to stop this. (Voluntarily).

Governor Noem.  Wear a mask.

If you elect me as Senator from District 20, I will propose a Coronavirus Action Plan in January 2021.  The Action Plan will increase testing, mask wearing and quarantine space.
